New reports now suggest that the recent strikes that took place at British Airways could have caused travel problems for more than 200,000 passengers. Heathrow airport was, of course, the hardest hit. Some reports suggest that almost 180,000 passengers were prevented from flying due to the cabin crew strike.

Reports said that Heathrow missed out on about 180,000 passengers in March due to the two industrial actions that took place between British Airways and the Unite union. A further 20,000 people failed to travel from airports like Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh. Although all of these airports were affected, Heathrow was by far affected the worst.

Heathrow carried some 5.2 million people last month. This is still an increase of about 0.4 percent when compared to a year ago. Reports have suggested that, without the strike, British Airways would have had recorded a growth of 3.8 percent.

Experts have also blamed the strike for a 1.5 percent drop in overall passenger numbers across many UK airports during March. These airports would have posted a 1 percent gain had it not been for the strike action. However, other experts did point out that some airports saw a drop in passengers that was not related to the strike. For example, Stansted airport saw a drop of about 4.2 percent, which was not directly affected by the British Airways dispute.

Just last week British Airways went on to report that the strike had cost them close to £45 million. This dispute over pay and jobs is ongoing. The good news for UK travelers is that the union has not announced any more strike dates as of yet. However, this could happen at any time.
